SUMMARY:PRSA Webinar: From Here to Sobriety: The Softer Side of Leadership
DESCRIPTION:From Here to Sobriety: The Softer Side of Leadership \nJune 13\, 2024\n3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) / 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. (PST) \nFREE TO PRSA MEMBERS. \nRegister Now\n\n\nToo often leaders feel they must be strong\, tough and decisive\, that to admit or show weakness will only undercut them and make them ineffective leaders. That is how Leonard Greenberger\, vice president of AKCG\, felt until he experienced a medical crisis because of years of prescription drug abuse. \nAfter a week on a psych ward\, five weeks in rehab\, 20 weeks of intensive outpatient therapy and more than two years of sobriety\, he has come to understand that all of that is exactly wrong. \nIn this PRSA Learning Webinar\, Greenberger will share these hard-won lessons — how asking for help is a sign of strength; the importance of being present for those you care about most; how being willing to show your vulnerability can break down barriers; the comfort in giving yourself grace; and so much more — so attendees can understand how revealing their “softer sides” can help them to become more effective leaders. \nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will learn: \n\nWhat constitutes soft leadership skills.\nHow to cultivate and deploy soft leadership skills.\nHow to become more effective leaders.\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n \nLeonard Greenberger\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\nAccreditation Information\nParticipants with the APR credential earn 0.5 CEUs for a webinar. \n\nLearn more about Accreditation.

While enjoying increasingly diverse representations of LGBTQ people in media\, culture\, and politics\, we are also under unrelenting attack at the legislative level in many states\, and many of our most vulnerable are being targeted in schools\, religious institutions\, libraries\, and more. A new generation of LGBTQ youth is both more visible and empowered than ever before—and also the target of these attacks. \nHow can communicators tell the stories of LGBTQ people in an environment that is so divisive and consumed by misinformation? SUMMARY:PRSA Storytellers Series: Essential Ethics Competencies in Public Relations: Common Deficiencies and Helpful Resources
DESCRIPTION:PRSA Storytellers Series: Essential Ethics Competencies in Public Relations: Common Deficiencies and Helpful Resources\nMay 9\, 2024 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time)\n\n\nThe past two reports published by the Commission on Public Relations Education (2017\, 2023) found that public relations practitioners were not satisfied with the ethics skills of young professionals\, so a new study was conducted that focused on identifying what are the essential ethics skills and which of these are perceived as lacking in our profession today. \nThe insights are based on a national survey with more than 300 public relations professionals followed by a second national survey with both public relations professionals and educators. Their personal perceptions of preparedness to serve as ethics advisers in their organization were assessed. They were also asked to identify the most common ethical issues facing them today. Some of the results may be considered surprising. \nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will: \n\nDiscover what are the essential ethics skills in public relations today.\nAssess their own mastery of these core ethics skills.\nLearn about resources available for enhancing their ethics skills.\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n \nMarlene Neill\, Ph.D.\, APR\, Fellow PRSA\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\nAccreditation Information\nParticipants with the APR credential earn 0.5 CEUs in ethics for this webinar. \n\nLearn more about Accreditation.

SUMMARY:PRSA Event: PRSA Storytellers: What the Pandemic Proves About Leadership: Why Skilled Improvisation and Inclusion Are the Key to Our Futures
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS FREE TO MEMBERS & STUDENT MEMBERS! \n  \nWhile upsetting the balance of our lives all over the world\, COVID-19 has also focused enduring themes and emerging trends for leadership practice. This big-picture webinar details why and how improvisation and inclusion must be at the center of every leader’s philosophy and behaviors in a post-pandemic world. In essence\, no organization can be successful without their leaders cultivating these twin skills moving forward. Detailing what has changed in our organizational environments\, while drawing from a wealth of research and surprising insights from the field of improvisational theater\, the webinar will provide participants with a framework that can be immediately put into practice by both rising and established leaders. Using findings from the author’s new book\, Improv for Democracy: How to Bridge Differences and Develop the Communication and Leadership Skills Our World Needs\, the webinar will further provide an opportunity for participants to re-set their thoughts and actions as they launch into new and uncertain post-pandemic futures. \nPresenter\nDon Waisanen is a professor in the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College\, where he received the Presidential Awards for Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Scholarship. He teaches courses and workshops in public communication—including executive speech training\, communication strategy\, and seminars on storytelling\, conflict and negotiation\, and leadership and improvisation. \nAll of Waisanen’s research seeks to understand how communication works to promote or hinder the force of citizens’ voices. Since “every human advancement or reversal can be understood through communication” (Walter Annenberg)\, he has written over 45 scholarly publications on the subject\, covering topics from strategies in public speaking to the ways that organizations and governments can better communicate with different stakeholders. He is the author of Improv for Democracy: How to Bridge Differences and Develop the Communication and Leadership Skills Our World Needs\, and forthcoming books on the intersections of strategic communication and voter suppression\, participatory budgeting\, and nonprofit leadership. \nPreviously\, Waisanen worked in broadcast journalism\, as a speechwriter\, and continues to develop and run communication campaigns for organizations across the private and public sectors. He is the founder of Communication Upward and an adjunct lecturer at Columbia University and New York University. For the last two decades\, he’s also been a comedy writer and improvisational comedian at theaters in Los Angeles and New York. \n\nREGISTER HERE \n
