Creativity is serious business in Southern California. Creative occupations represent one out of every eight jobs in Los Angeles and Orange counties and have an annual economic output of $230 billion. Protecting that creativity is an equally serious business, and public relations practitioners need a firm grasp of how intellectual property laws apply to them and their clients. On Sept. 5 the PRSA-LA Independent Practitioners Alliance will host a luncheon session led by copyright attorney Michael L. Lovitz. The presentation will focus on:
- Understanding intellectual property, including why you can’t patent a brand or trademark an idea
- The top 10 things every business owner, including solo practitioners and boutique PR firm principals, needs to know about intellectual property
- Tips to help you and your clients avoid IP crises
