ERIK DEUTSCH (2014 PRSA-LA President) is an award-winning media strategist with more than 20 years of experience in public relations, digital marketing, and content creation. Prior to launching ExcelPR Group in 2004, he spent nearly a decade working with some of the world’s largest PR agencies on campaigns for a wide range of clients — from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
While his experience is broad, he has specialized expertise in technology-related fields including healthcare (biotech/medical devices), digital media, and entertainment. Recent ExcelPR Group clients include the California Film Commission, Bausch & Lomb, the Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio), and the U.S. Representative Office of Shenzhen, Peoples Republic of China.
An early adopter of online PR tactics, Erik helped launch Interactive PR News in 1995 as the first national newsletter on new media for public relations professionals (later acquired by Access Intelligence – publisher of PR News). He has served many years as an instructor at UCLA Extension, where he currently teaches a course titled “Best Practices in Social Media for the Communications Professional.” He is also a frequent speaker at major PR, marketing, and digital media conferences across the U.S. (appearances include SXSW, BlogWorld/New Media Expo, Digital Hollywood, Social Media Week Los Angeles, and Internet Week NYC).
Erik earned a master’s degree from USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and an undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA. In his spare time, he likes playing the drums… despite his total lack of musical talent. He also enjoys an occasional joyride in his ’65 Ford Falcon.
