Gita Amar is a senior vice president of media at GCI Health (part of the WPP holding company), offering strategic counsel on media relations for health, wellness, medical devices, animal health, and biotech clients. She works with a multitude of clients advising on strategic communications, FDA approvals, identifying new angles for media coverage, CEO executive positioning, and crisis management. She’s known for deploying innovative media skills and ideas in the congested and changing media landscape. She employs creative tactics for complex high-science messaging directed to consumers.
She also serves as a commentator for various BBC shows on breaking news and pop culture. Gita has been a producer for Fox News Channel, NPR, Good Day LA, and a senior producer for Fox News Online. She also worked as a producer and correspondent for Sky Movies. Gita has won the PRSA – NY Big Apple Award for her broadcast media campaigns for smoking cessation and journalism awards for her 9-11 coverage. Gita also currently serves on the advisory board for AAJA-LA and has served on the Board of Directors of AAJA-LA, winning Board Member of the Year.
Prior to running her own media relations consultancy, she served in senior roles at Fleishman-Hillard, Golin Harris, PMK*BNC, and Zebra Partners working on Fortune 500 clients from video gaming to theatrical to pharmaceutical clients including (Activision, Viacom, Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, Sony, Genentech, Nintendo, Paramount, DreamWorks, Fox Home Entertainment and Disney).
Gita holds a master’s degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications, a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law, and a bachelor’s degree from UCLA where she started her journalism career at the Daily Bruin and UCLA’s KLA Radio.
