PRSA-LA Board Member Shawn Turner currently also serves as president of the Black Public Relations Society of Los Angeles (BPRS-LA), and has worked to further a strategic alliance between the two organizations.
Turner recently led BPRS-LA’s Leadership and Career Conference at USC, where she was joined by an array of dynamic speakers who delivered keynote addresses and participated in panel discussions on topics important to PR practitioners. Sponsored by PR Newswire, the one-day conference featured Pastor Wayne A. Chaney Jr., senior pastor of Antioch Church of Long Beach who spoke passionately about how PR pros can align their career with their purpose. Jan Perry, general manager of the Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department, shared the benefits of being “millennial-minded” to further your career. James Ward III and Camille Smith from multicultural PR agency THAurban, provided an in-depth overview of the PR and marketing campaign driving the hit Fox TV show “Empire.” Finally, a Meet the Media panel hosted by motivational speaker Johnel Barron provided tips on how to work with editors and producers in an ever-changing media landscape, and new ways to leverage content in a digital world.
BPRS-LA’s mission is to support local PR professionals with growth and development opportunities, while championing diversity.
