Reflecting on weeks of protest in our nation’s cities and last week’s landmark Supreme Court rulings, I’m reminded of the importance of public relations professionals and our role as advocates, leaders and message bearers who create and communicate change.
Change depends on and invites robust public conversation, which we in our profession are uniquely qualified to promote. And that is why the members of PRSA are so often looked to for expertise to guide community organizers, elected leaders and social entrepreneurs.
As a member of PRSA-LA, you probably know that our membership is our advantage. Our roughly 500 members, who bring years of agency, in-house and independent experience, truly are our greatest asset. The LA-area corporations, nonprofits, academic institutions and governments that our members represent are the conversation leaders for our region. As a result, the level of access available to each of us through the PRSA network is profound.
My board colleagues and I want to give you every incentive to help grow that network, thereby maximizing the value you receive from your membership. To that end, there are two exciting upcoming opportunities I want you to know about:
- On November 4, PRSA-LA will host the 51st Annual PRism Awards. Award entries are now being accepted (see below for links to our Call for Entries), and PRSA members who submit by the July 17 early entry deadline have the option of submitting two entries for the price of one regularly-priced non-member entry (a $90 savings). Talk about an incentive to join!
- On August 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. PRSA-LA will host an exclusive, invitation-only Summer Membership Mixer at a soon-to-be-named location in Beverly Hills. Please save the date, the secret (for now) details of the event will be released in July.
I’ll close on a note of appreciation – appreciation for all of you who give generously of your time, talent and treasure to make PRSA-LA the diverse and dynamic organization that it is. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jean Gonsoulin, PRSA-LA President
