Although it may seem far off, it’s not too early to start preparing for PRSA-LA’s annual PRism Awards.
This year marks the Prisms’ 50th anniversary! It’s the big five-oh and we’re intent on making the November gala something to remember.
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the 2014 Big Apple Awards presented by our colleagues at PRSA’s New York Chapter. The program was impressive and an exceptionally good time. Attending solely as a guest provided me with an opportunity to sit back, enjoy the show and get inspired. Profound thanks to Henry Feintuch (PRSA-NY president) and his team for their hospitality.
The road to the 2014 PRisms begins with the call for entries, which will once again be managed entirely through our online award entry system. We were the first PRSA chapter in the nation to adopt such an all-digital system, and we have helped several other large chapters implement this convenient and eco-friendly approach. Stay tuned for more information about the call for entries.
We’re still in the planning stages on the PRism gala, but one thing we know for certain is that we will not be returning to last year’s venue – The Beverly Hills Hotel. PRSA-LA is joining many other organizations in a boycott of the hotel due to recent actions by its owner, the Sultan of Brunei, who has instituted a new penal code in his nation that fundamentally violates human rights and treats citizens with stone-age era cruelty. We look forward to possibly returning to the hotel if and when the situation is resolved.
As we begin working on this year’s PRisms, we have an exciting lineup of events to take PRSA-LA through the summer. It begins with our “How Brands are Targeting the Modern Mom” event tomorrow, May 29. Then, in June we have our marquee multicultural PR event, as well as our next installment of At Breakfast With… featuring top Latino entertainment media. We’re also working on another online “Happy Hour Hangout” with local journalists.
Summer’s almost here, so get ready for things to heat up.
Sincerely,
Erik Deutsch, PRSA-LA President
