Denise P. Ferguson is Professor of Communication and Director of Graduate Programs in Communication at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Denise has 10+ years of experience in public relations in higher education, corporate, and nonprofit organizations. Denise has earned the APR, and has served PRSA-LA as a Readiness Review panel member and annually at Quality Time With PR Minds. Denise holds a Ph.D. in Public Affairs and Issues Management at Purdue University.
At Pepperdine, Denise directs the MA in Strategic Communication and the undergraduate program in public relations, and advises The Waves Effect student-run firm and Waves PRSSA.
Dr. Ferguson’s research has been published in Public Relations Review, Public Relations Journal, Business Review Yearbook, The Handbook of Public Relations, and Sociological Quarterly. Her work has been presented at annual conferences of the International Association of Business Disciplines, International Communication Association, National Communication Association, and Religious Communication Association, and Public Relations Society of America, where she was awarded the 2008 Top Faculty Paper and Best of Public Relations Journal in 2012.
She earned a Ph.D. in Public Affairs and Issues Management at Purdue University, a master’s degree in Communication at Bowling Green State University, and a B.S. in Communication from Indiana State University. Dr. Ferguson is an executive member of the international Commission on Public Relations Education and has served as Chair of the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association.
