PR Ethics & Practices in the Entertainment Community
May 17, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am
Description
As the lines blur between editorial, social media and user generated (UGC) content channels, Public Relations professionals in Entertainment are challenged to engage with their audiences while balancing their ongoing relationships with their media counterparts. With recent examples of data abuse in social media, the need for trust in media has never been more important. Now is the time to examine the ethical issues and standards for the very fluid times we currently operate in. The PRSA is dedicated to supporting this challenge with extensive resources available online to “uphold the core values of the ethical practice of public relations, including advocacy, honesty, loyalty, professional development and objectivity.”
This inter-disciplinary session will explore the following questions:
- What is different in the digital age in the relationship between Public Relations and the Press?
- What are best practices for Public Relations to use social media as a tool with transparency.
- What are examples of improper practices and their consequences.
- What is the responsibility of the PR practitioner in dealing with alleged illegal actions by a client or employer?
