From Headlines to Hashtags: How Social Media is Transforming News Coverage
September 23, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
We live in an age when news is reported and consumed in real time. The race to deliver a story first has never been more intense, as journalists, social media managers and PR pros face constant pressure to generate more shares, likes, retweets and pins than the competition. News cycles and attention spans are now measured in seconds, and even the most traditional news outlets must infuse their coverage with social features in order to remain relevant. This panel will examine how traditional news can survive and thrive amid this shift to the real time web.
Panelists:
Stacey Leasca, Social Media Editor, LA Times
Chris Schauble, Anchor, KTLA
Michael Slate, Producer and Host, KPFK
Moderator:
Erik Deutsch, Principal, ExcelPR Group and President, PRSA-LA
Hosted by Social Media Club, Los Angeles (SMCLA) and Public Relations Society of America, Los Angeles Chapter (PRSA-LA)
Location:
The Broad Stage
1310 11th Street
Santa Monica, CA 90401
