PRSA-LA member Meri Elbakyan’s recent project “My Insane Shakespeare” earned the prestigious 2014 United Solo and Backstage Audience Award at the world’s largest solo theatre festival. Winners were announced recently at the closing ceremony of the 10-week festival in New York City, which included 130 productions from six continents.
The sold out one-man show revolved around an actor who involuntarily finds himself in a mental hospital where the story unfolds. Betrayed by his friends, he analyzes life, love and hatred to find that the line between sanity and insanity is often blurred.
Elbakyan co-produced “My Insane Shakespeare” and managed its PR and marketing campaigns, which resulted in extensive international coverage. She also translated the play from Armenian into English.
Elbakyan is a multilingual PR pro who has worked on numerous projects with international performers, including the award-winning Russian Jazz Ballet. Prior to entering the PR filed, she was a broadcast journalist who helped launch RT (“Russia Today”) – the 24/7 international English language news channel.
