Stephen Chavez, CEO, ChavezPR
Stephen Chavez is a seasoned, award-winning communications professional with extensive leadership in public relations and Hispanic marketing.
In 2010, he founded ChavezPR, a strategic brand management and creative storytelling agency in Los Angeles. Over the course of his career, Stephen has represented corporate, nonprofit, and government agencies, including Northgate González Market, Verizon, McDonald’s, National Institutes of Health, Museum of Latin American Art, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. His agency’s campaigns have earned industry accolades, including the coveted Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Silver Anvil Award and local PRSA-LA PRism Awards. He received the Food and Beverage Campaign of the Year Award from the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) in 2024.
Stephen is the Immediate Past President of the Public Relations Society of America, Los Angeles Chapter, where he served for two consecutive terms. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the National PRSA Foundation. Stephen is Vice Chair of PRSA’s National DEI Committee where he spearheaded the effort to update the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Toolkit for national PRSA members. Stephen also sits on the board and serve as Secretary of the PRSA Western District Conference. This past year, he was co-chair of the Western District Conference in Universal City. In 2019, Stephen created and continues to lead the PRSA-LA Scholarship Committee, raising funds for local college students pursuing a degree in Communications. Stephen is also one of the founders of the PRSA-LA Sunrise Honors, recognizing senior PR executives who are champions for the DEI space. Today, Stephen volunteers his time as Co-Chair of the PRSA-LA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
Stephen has a long history giving back to the PR industry. Before all of his work with PRSA, he served as National President of the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) in 2014, and the LA President for two separate terms. As HPRA President, he established the national BRAVO! Awards honoring top multicultural PR campaigns from throughout the countryVoice of Courage Awards, honoring Latino professionals advocating on behalf of the community through journalism, corporate, and the arts.
Stephen’s commitment extends beyond business to community leadership. He chairs the Board of Directors for the Latino Equality Alliance, fostering safe spaces for LGBTQ+ Latinx youth and families in Los Angeles. He is a member of the National LGBT Chamber and holds certification as a National Minority Business Enterprise. Stephen holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of La Verne and shares his expertise as a part-time adjunct professor of public relations.
