This year marks the eighth year of PRSA-LA’s Sunrise Honors. The event will be held on September 17, 2026, 6:00 – 9 :00 PM at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens, 570 W Ave 26, Los Angeles, CA 90065
Sunrise Honors recognizes trailblazers and pioneers in the public relations and marketing world who have opened doors to increase the diversity and inclusion of underrepresented populations into the field of Communications. Through their perseverance and tenacity, we learn how to continue the important work to make the PR industry more inclusive and embracing of diverse perspectives.
Congratulations to these 2026 Sunrise Honors recipients:
Sandy Shin is Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Braille Institute and a communications leader with more than 30 years of experience. Her career includes Disney, IBM, UCLA and USC. She specializes in brand strategy, inclusive storytelling and communications that connect organizations with the communities they serve.
Dr. Jamila Cupid is an international scholar, educator, author, orator, and communications strategist specializing in public relations, digital media, organizational belonging, and equity. Her scholarship explores culture, inclusion, and representation, while her professional experience spans academia, agency communications, organizational strategy, and leadership development in the United States and abroad.
Brenda Duran is Director of External Affairs for Los Angeles County’s Justice, Care and Opportunities Department. A former journalist and longtime public sector communications leader, she champions multilingual, culturally responsive communications and equitable community engagement. Her leadership has helped make government information more accessible to diverse communities throughout Los Angeles County.
